The chief of Chicago’s Independent Police Review Authority will meet with members of the Asian American community about why the IPRA doesn’t think officers in a police raid of an Asian salon should be fired, reports WBEZ.
During the raid, an officer is heard on surveillance tape saying “You’re not f****** American. I’ll put you in the UPS box and send you back to wherever the f*** you came from.”
The IPRA recommended that that officer be suspended for 25 days. A suspension of eight days was recommended for another officer seen smacking the manager in the head while she was handcuffed and on her knees.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice has demanded that the officers be fired.
You can read their thoughts going into today’s meeting and reaction from Mayor Rahm Emanuel to the controversy on WBEZ.
re: Asian Americans to Meet with Police Review Chief about Police Misconduct Case. Thought this case was resolved sometime last year. I guess Chicago does not have a legal AAPI civil rights organization. Did OCA Chicago chapter do anything?
