The only American known to have been killed in the terrorist attack that left at least 27 people dead in the West African country of Mali is remembered as a kind, often smiling friend, daughter, mother of a 7-year-old boy and former Peace Corp volunteer who was “something special.”
The life of 41-year-old Anita Datar, who graduated from Rutgers University and did her post graduate work at Columbia, was remembered in an article on NJ.Com
“I just remember her being kind. And as an adult, beautiful and radiant and smiley.” said former classmate Liza Nechamkin Glasser who has known her since elementary school.
Datar graduated from Mount Olive High School in New Jersey where she excelled in the marching band, served on the student council all four years and joined the Future Business Leaders of America.
“Even back then, we knew that she was something special,” said high school friend Tara Elms Henderson.
Datar has worked in Africa, Asia and South America. She most recently was employed at the Palladium Group as a senior manager.
