A man born in India who applied to be a police officer with the Chicago Police Department has won a $3.1 million discrimination suit.
The American Bazaar reports that Masood Khan along with Glenford Flowers, who was born in Belize, were both rejected by the Department despite passing the police exam.
The two were rejected in 2006 under a policy that required applicants to be residents of the U.S. for at least 10 years.
Chicago PD has since changed its residency requirement to five years, but the Justice Department has asked Chicago to drop its residency requirement in its entirety.
The Chicago City Council approved the settlement, but details have not been released.
