The son of Taiwanese immigrants who settled in Chicago has been selected as the next president of InterVarsity, a Christian organization on college campuses nationwide.
Tom Lin will take the helm on August 10.
The Harvard graduate has been Vice President and director of missions for InterVarsity since 2011.
“I never dreamed of being a missionary. I never thought I looked like a missionary.” said Lin. “I was an ordinary Christian who came from an ordinary immigrant family. My story was one of pain. I grew up as a second class citizen looked down upon as an Asian American. I remembered the fears and the jeers as I engaged with the majority culture around me. I believed that I had nothing to offer the worry.”
Speaking about the gospel and God’s message, Lin said “He surprised me with a beautiful gospel that says there are no second class citizens, that all ethnic groups are invited to his story. That his story extends to all nations.”
Lin lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his wife Nancy and daughters Abby (11) and Olivia (9).
