A congressional candidate in New Jersey is responding with love and defiance to racist messages spray painted on his home, reports WABC.
It’s the second time in a week such an incident has happened. Last week someone spray painted racist symbols on the sidewalk outside his home.
Peter Jacob who is seeking to unseat Republican incumbent Leonard Lance for the seventh district House seat says he’s not intimidated.
“People have asked, ‘Are you scared, do you feel any anxiety, are you worried,'” he said. “And I always respond to them, this nation has given us so much, there is nothing but love and hope in our hearts because this is our town, this is our community, this is our state. And we will not be intimidated.”
Several African American religious and community leaders stood behind Jacob in a show of support during his news conference.
So did Joshua Cohen of the Anti-defamation League.
“I’m so moved that members of the community are brought together today to stand up, to say no to hate, to reject this type of bias and bigotry in our community,” he said.
