WCPO: Teacher Placed on Leave after Making Racially Insensitive Remark to Asian Student

Fairfield High School Racial RemarkA teacher in Ohio has been placed on leave after making a racially insensitive remark directed at an Asian student at Fairfield High School, reports WCPO.

The incident came to light after a student posted video of the remark on Facebook.

Teacher Katherine Klimach is heard on the tape admonishing the student after something went apparently wrong with a computer.

“We’re waiting for it to come on,” Klimach said. “You broke it already. What’s wrong with you? You Chinese are supposed to make computers, and you’re breaking them instead.”

Fairfield is the same school district where the parents of Emilie Olsen say the 13-year-old committed suicide after the district ignored their repeated pleas for help to stop bullying of their daughter. Emilie is a Chinese American adopted from China.

You can hear about reaction from both the teacher and the school district about the latest incident in the video below.
