Teachers and administrators could lose their licenses if an investigation finds they were negligent in handling the case of Emilie Olsen, an adopted Chinese girl who committed suicide.
WCPO reports the Ohio Department of Education is looking at whether teachers and administrators demonstrated incompetent and negligent acts in the way they dealt with Olsen. Emilie’s parents charge the district ignored their pleas to help their daughter deal with bullies.
The Fairfield School District has persistently denied that charge and claims it had no knowledge of any bullying.
“All the Ohio Department of Education has to establish is that a teacher acted unreasonably under the circumstances or that the teacher failed to use ordinary care,” said civil rights attorney Konrad Kircher to WCPO.
Emilie’s parents have sued the district and the principal has since resigned, as has the former district administrator who took another position in a neighboring district.
