Fil Am Makes his Directorial Debut with Warner Bros. Disaster Thriller

Geostorm

Dean Devlin is no stranger to big budget films. After all he’s credited as the screen writer for Independence Day starring Will Smith.

He makes his directorial debut for Warner Bros with the sci fi weather disaster film Geostorm starring Gerard Butler.

Interaksyon reports the film was inspired by his 6-year-old daughter who asked dad why we couldn’t just fix climate change.

“In the simplest way, she asked me, ‘Why can’t we just build a machine that fixes it?’ That sparked all these ideas in my mind about what would happen if we did build just such a machine. And what if something went horribly wrong? That became the ‘what if’ story—what if we wait too long to deal with extreme climate change? What if we don’t? What if we could create this amazing machine to control the weather around the entire planet? And what would we do if it went rogue?”

According to SyFy, Butler plays Jake who’s in charge with his brother Max (Jim Sturgess) of stopping the global weather mayhem caused by the malfunctioning satellites.

Devlin says he hopes his movie will make moviegoers more curious about the world around them.

Geostorm makes its debut October 20. Daniel Wu also appears in the film
