A Central Ohio man had only met Michelle Vo a few hours before a gunman went on his rampage leaving 59 people dead.
In those short hours, Kody Robertson said Michelle made a deep impression on him. The
Dispatch reports they danced and laughed and even exchanged phone numbers.
That joy was soon shattered by the piercing sound of gunfire. Michelle fell to the ground. The Los Angeles woman had been shot. Kody didn’t hesitate. He threw his body on top of Michelle to shield her. He would later carry her to a waiting pick up truck and she was rushed to the hospital.
Doug stayed behind to help other victims.
“You can’t even process it,” he said. “Husbands and wives on top of one another just screaming, people crying and trying too hard to get someone to wake up.”
Even after seeing all that carnage, Doug couldn’t get Michelle out of his mind. He went on a search for Michelle after he left the concert groundsonly to learn that she had died.
Michelle’s sister Cathy considers Doug a hero. ABC7 reports she tearfully thanked him Wednesday for staying by her side in her time of need.
“You were there to tell us about her last moments. So, whenever we tell her story, we won’t be able to tell her story without telling your story also,” Cathy said.
