A father charged with child endangerment after the disappearance of his adopted daughter from India will be in court tomorrow to fight for the custody of his biological daughter, reports CBS DFW.
Wesley Mathews was arrested by Richardson, Texas police near Dallas after he told authorities two weeks ago his daughter went missing after he punished her by sending her out to a back alley for not drinking her milk.
Three-year-old Sherin Mathews has not been seen since.
Child Protective Services said it has been involved with her father in the past, but did not provide details.
CPS took custody of Mathews four-year-old daughter shortly after Sherin’s disappearance.
Richardson Police have been going door to door in search for Sherin.
“Searches being conducted are very specific as we learn more through evidence being collected. Much of the evidence we have obtained requires analysis which takes time to process at a forensic level,” police said in a statement to News 18.
Wesley Mathews is out on bail, but is under electronic surveillance.
India’s External Affairs Minister said his department is closely monitoring developments in this case. According to News18, the parents are Indian American.
