An NBA message meant to wish everyone a Chinese New Year has turned into a racial controversy after many on social media alleged they can hear Philadelphia 76er JJ Redick using a racial slur.
Redick’s video was leaked and quickly went viral.
According to the NY Daily News, the video was produced by the Chinese media company, Tencent.
Reddick went on Twitter to deny the accusation saying “the word I purportedly said is not in my vocabulary.”
Just saw a video that is being circulated of me wishing a happy new year to NBA fans in China.Clearly I was tongue tied, as the word I purportedly said is not in my vocabulary. I’m disappointed that anyone would think I would use that word. I love & respect our friends in China.
