Crazy Rich Asians star Michelle Yeoh’s next movie could be titled Corrupt Rich Asian.
SCMP reports the veteran actress will produce a movie about Jho Low, a Malaysian man accused of masterminding a one billion dollar fraud scheme in the United States. Low is also known as the Asian Gatsby.
Billion Dollar Whale is based on a non-fiction book of the same name by investigative Wall Street Journal reporters Bradley Hope and Tom Wright .
This will be the first project of a deal signed by Yeoh with SK Global’s Ivanhoe Picture which also co-produced Crazy Rich Asians.
It has not yet known whether Yeoh will also appear in Billion Dollar Whale.
The announcement comes one week after Yeoh posted a selfie of herself on Instagram with the book cover.
“We are very proud to be associated with this project and anticipate moving forward very quickly to production,” SK Global president John Penotti said in a statement to the Jakarta Post.
Yeoh will be seen in Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy which is set for release sometime this year.
