The success of Crazy Rich Asians has given the fight for more Asian American representation in films and television a huge boost.
Disney has signed a deal to turn the book 29 Dates by Filipina American author Melissa de la Cruz into a movie for its streaming service, reports NextShark
This is de la Cruz’s second deal with Disney. In 2015, the movie studio picked up her novel The Descendants. The Disney Channel is expected to release its third film in the Descendant series soon.
29 Dates has received much buzz and is now being compared to Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Ever Loved Before.
According to Laughing Place, the author will soon release two new books- an adult suspense thriller, The Birthday Girl, and a graphic novel which features DC Entertainment characters during their high school years, Gotham High.
