The Air Force at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland is investigating the death of airman XinHua Mesenburg who authorities found dead in his apartment in Fairfax County, VA, reports the Air Force Times.
His father, Mitch Mesenburg, posted a heartbreaking note on Facebook saying the air force informed him his son had killed himself with a gunshot, hours after he received an ominous handwritten note from his son via text.
“I hope that all of you remember me fondly,” the note read. “I hope all of you will live a long and happy life. As I fade from your memories, please know this was nobody’s fault. The stress life has given me, finally broke my will to live.”
Mitch called 911 immediately after receiving the note while his wife, Shannon, tried to text her son to preoccupy him until police could arrive.
It would be hours later before the Mesenburgs would learn what happened to their son.
“XinHua seemed to have the world by the tail and was ready for more,” wrote his father. “I wish I could give step by step instructions on how to avoid this, unfortunately that’s impossible.”
The Mesenburgs adopted their son at the age of eight from China. XinHua’s biological father abandoned him in a park when he was just five.
“When he hugged you, he would not let go until you did first. He had an infectious laugh and fun disposition,” said Mitch.
XinHua’s death is being investigated by both the Air Force and the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia.
