Michelle Wie has returned to the sport of golf after battling a wrist injury. According to Golfweek, Wie returned to competition in Thailand last week. Now, she has her sights set on the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore. The tournament begins on Thursday, February 28.
In 2017, Wie was in a car accident that damaged her wrist. Although the injury impacted her game, Wie says she felt grateful that the accident had not been worse.
“I mean, you know, as unfortunate as the car accident was,” she said, “It could’ve been a lot worse, too. Fortunate to be alive.”
Last October, Wie had surgery to remove excess scar tissue and clean up her chipped bone. Wie has also reinvented her swing to keep her divots more shallow and wrist friendly.
“Definitely after surgery, it’s taken me a long road to be here today,” Wie told Golfweek.
Last week, Wie finished T-23 at a tournament in Thailand. She continues to work hard to improve that position. Her best, according to The Straits Times in Singapore, is yet to come.
“Being No. 1 in the world is the most important thing to me,” Wie told The Straits Times.
