Memphis Grizzlies add Asian American manager as new Vice President

The Memphis Grizzlies named Rich Cho Vice President of Basketball Strategy on Wednesday, according to an official press release by the NBA.

Cho worked as an engineer for Boeing from 1989 to 1994. He left to pursue a front office career in the NBA while simultaneously working towards a law degree at Pepperdine University.

In 2010, Cho became the first Asian American general manager in American major league sports when the Portland Trailblazers named him their general manager. After a short stint with the Trailblazers, Cho went on to serve as the Charlotte Hornets’ general manager for seven seasons.

The Grizzlies also named Glenn Grunwald as a senior advisor.

“We are excited to welcome Rich and Glen to the Grizzlies,” Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Zachary Z. Kleiman said. “Rich and Glen bring a wealth of experience, basketball acumen and leadership to the organization as we continue to build and shape our basketball operations.”

Fans reactions to the new additions have been mixed.
