H Mart, one of the largest Asian American supermarket chains in the country, will expand its business by opening up a new location at the American Dream mall in New Jersey, a 5 million dollar entertainment and retail center coming this October.
Known for its “market-eatery” concept, H Mart offers an extensive selection of traditional Asia, mostly focusing on Korean style and international groceries. H Mart first opened in 1982 in Woodside, Queens, New York. At the new location in New Jersey, H Mart will be residing in a 35,000 square feet marketplace in the American Dream mall.
“We are creating a new template for the future of Asian food in America— a place to experience the best of what Asia has to offer, discover new flavors or have a taste of home,” H Mart President Stacey Kwon said in a statement.
In addition to the market-eatery, the New Jersey location will introduce the first “Let Them Talk Bar and Stage” that will feature live music, cocktails, and weekly entertainment events, according to the Daily Voice.
The popularity of the chain has grown immensely over the years. According to H Mart’s website, the supermarket has more than 97 stores across the United States and has expanded to Canada and the United Kingdom as well.
Patch reports the American Dream mall will open on October 25, after a two-year delay. The shopping center was originally to open in 2017, but the construction of the mall was delayed due to other complications.
