Customs agents stopped nine Arizona State University exchange students from China from entering the country for the fall semester, reports USA Today.
All the students have been sent back to China, but the school says it is working to resolve the dispute.
No word on the reason behind the action by border agents.
“We are working as quickly as possible to coordinate with the federal government to understand the circumstances surrounding these actions and to rectify the situation,” ASU said.
US Customs and Border Protection told ABC15 the nine were deemed inadmissible into the US after inspections conducted at the border. It refused to be more specific than that. Instead it cited the Immigration and Nationality Act which lists 60 grounds for inadmissibility.
The incident happened at Los Angeles International Airport and follows a similar incident involving a Harvard student from Palestine.

RE: Arizona State students from China denied reentry to US for fall semester: They don’t know why? It’s the same ol’ same ol’. Remember the chant in the late 1800s? “Deportation and extermination.” Anti-Chinese sentiment on the west coast. I wonder if tbey’ve Turned away any students from Europe?
