After a successful turnout in Downtown Baltimore last year, the Charm City Night Market is returning for its second year on September 21st. According t o WBAL-TV, the event celebrates Baltimore’s Asian American community and was filled with 12,000 people last year.
This is part of a growing trend in Asian neighborhoods across the United States to feature night markets like those in East and Southeast Asia. Similar night markets have been held in Southern California’s San Gabriel Valley and in San Francisco’s Filipino community.
This year, the footprint will stretch bigger to accommodate the close to 20,000 people expected to attend the festival. It will begin on the 200 block of Park Avenue and go down to 100 N. Charles St. and Center Plaza.
According to Baltimore Fishbowl, the event will host many restaurant vendors, live entertainment, music artists and even programming for children.
For food, there is anticipated to be an assortment. This includes dishes like Taiwanese curry-fried chicken, Hawaiian spam and soft serve ube.
“One year is great, and of course that’s really fun and exciting, but I think the staying power comes with doing it again,” said Stephanie Hsu, one of the event organizers.
The night market will take place from 3 to 11 P.M. on September 21st and coincides with Lunar Mid-Autumn Festival.
