A seventh grader from Vietnam is now hosting a solo art exhibition in New York City with his abstract works, some of which are already netting six figures, reports Yahoo News UK.
Xèo Chu’s Big World, Little Eyes opened on Thursday at the Georges Bergès Gallery and will run through January 2nd.
“I was just telling him that the works that Pollock was producing was kind of at the pinnacle of his career,” said gallery owner Georges Bergès. “And he’s producing similar work at the start of his career. So, it’s very interesting to see where that’s going to head.”
Chu explained in an interview for his exhibit that he enjoys the creativity of painting.
“I can do a lot of things with a painting,” he said. “I can choose, like what I would draw or what detail can I put in or what color. Stuff like that.”
Chu started painting at four years old; his mother owns an art gallery in Vietnam, providing him with the resources to get started.
“One customer came and bought my painting and I was really happy,” said Chu. “That was when I was like six.”
He plans to donate proceeds from his painting sales to Vietnamese charities for kids in need, hoping to provide resources to those who weren’t given the same opportunities as himself, according to FOX 5 New York.
