Constance Wu, who starred as a stripper in Hustlers, revealed that she earned $600 her first night working at a strip club while preparing for her role, according to Yahoo.
“I put fake tattoos on my neck, I changed my hair. You can’t duplicate the first time you walk into a club and say, ‘Hey, I’d like to have a job here,’ and then you go to work that night,” said Wu on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
As part of her job, Wu gave customers lap dances and pole danced, a skill that she learned by taking lessons in her living room where she installed a private pole.
However, the intense training may not have been necessary.
“When you’re naked, they don’t care if you’re that good,” she joked.
Although the film did not receive any Oscar nominations, it was well received by audiences and critics; Time and NPR both included it as one of the best films of 2019.
