Chip Ganassi Racing Tuesday fired rising NASCAR driver Kyle Larson for using the N word, reports ESPN.
The decision came swiftly, just a day after the race team suspended Larson for the incident Sunday night.
Larson could be heard during a live stream using the slur after he lost communication with his spotter during a virtual race.
“You can’t hear me? Hey, N__”
Larson’s spotter is reportedly White.
“As we continue to evaluate the situation with all the relevant parties, it became obvious that this was the only appropriate course of action to take,” said Chip Ganassi Racing on Tuesday to CNN.
Larson apologized during a video statement made on his Twitter account.
“I made a mistake, said the word that should never, ever be said,” Larson said. “There is no excuse for that. I wasn’t raised that way. It is just an awful thing to say. I feel very sorry for my family, my friends, my partners, the NASCAR community and especially the African American community.
Several sponsors abandoned him after the incident including McDonald’s, Credit One Bank and Fiserv, as well as Chevrolet.
