Police release photos of man accused of going on racist tirade and then breaking woman’s phone

Police in New York are looking for a man who went on a racist rant and then destroyed his victim’s phone after she began taking pictures of him, reports the Forest Hill Post.

Crime Stoppers is asking anyone who recognizes the man in a white hooded sweatshirt, white cap, white sweatpants and sneakers to call them at 1-800-577-TIPS.

The incident happened at Rego Park in Queens at 11:45 on Sunday morning.

According to QNS, the man made racist coronavirus-related remarks towards the 36-year-old Asian woman. When she took out her phone to snap some photos of the suspect, he slapped it out of her hand and it hit the pavement, causing it to shatter.

Police say the man was last seen running westbound on Wetherole Street. He is described as having a salt and pepper beard and mustache.

The New York Hate Crime Task Force is investigating.
