The daughter of an elderly couple in San Jose says a passing jogger yelled vile language and called her parents “disgusting” Sunday morning.
Fang, who asked that her full name not be used, posted about the encounter on Facebook saying its the third time in two months something like this has happened to her parents on the same trail.
It occurred at the Almaden Lake Trail in San Jose around 7am this weekend.
“This is a trail our family has walked on hundreds of times over the past 20 years, but first time experienced this type of discrimination 3 times in past 2 months,” she wrote. “I’ve always been proud of growing up in Almaden because of our kind neighbors, and safe environment. We also had a large Asian American population in our high school – about 40%. It absolutely blows my mind that this is happening in Almaden, and I’m sure my parents are not the only ones receiving this racist and “disgusting” treatment.”
Fang says her parents stayed away from the trail for a whole month because the last time someone spat and coughed on them.
She hopes someone will recognize the jogger and help them put an end to this.
Hate crimes against Asian Americans have increased dramatically during the pandemic as too many people have turned their anger toward the AAPI community.
