Torrance store owner told to “go back to Japan”

Police are investigating the threatening and racist letter received by a Japanese store owner in Torrance near Los Angeles.

An employee discovered the letter pinned to the store’s front door, reports Too Fab.

“Go back to Japan you monkey! You are making us sick and puke,” the letter read.

The letter also threatened to bomb the store.

“I was very disappointed,” said the owner of the store who asked to remain anonymous. “I moved here nine years ago to open my store, and try my best.”

He has since added security cameras, something he has been reluctant to do because he doesn’t want customers to feel as if they are being watched.

“I know it’s a hate crime. I don’t know about if they just don’t like Japanese or Asians, because we’re selling authentic Japanese tools,” Hiro, an employee of the store who first spotted the letter, said to KNBC.

Police and security at the mall both say they will keep a closer watch on the store.

This comes on the heels of a Long Beach woman harassing three Asian Americans in Torrance. That suspect has been identified as Lena Hernandez. She has not been arrested despite being questioned by police.
