An Indian American comedy writer tricked conservative television host Tomi Lahren into insulting Trump in Hindi, BBC reports.
Ali-Asghar Abedi paid for a message from Tomi Lahren through Cameo, an app that allows you to get personalized messages from celebrities.
In the video, Lahren thanks her fans in India for “supporting the Make America Great Again agenda” and the “keep America great agenda.”
“President Trump is wise like an owl, or as you say in Hindi, wise like an ullu,” Lahren said in the Cameo video.
“Ulloo,” the Hindi word for owl, has become associated with people who are idiots or are not very smart, according to BBC. Lahren unknowingly suggested that President Trump was an idiot.
Lahren recorded the video on Tuesday and uploaded it to her social media channels, but the video appears to have been deleted. Abedi reposted the video to his own Twitter.
Abedi says that the prank was worth the $85. He essentially bet that Lahren wasn’t going to dig into the real meaning of “ulloo.”
“I waged $85 that a prominent Trump supporter wouldn’t bother researching exactly what ‘ulloo’ really meant,” Abedi said in a piece he wrote about the prank for The Independent.
Why did Abedi do it?
“Admittedly, it’s juvenile — but given that the Republican National Convention may be beyond satire, pranking the likes of Lahren may be one of the few ways we can derive comedy from this absurd event,” Abedi wrote in The Independent. “After all, the RNC has been reduced to a cast of caricatures that closely resembles a comic book convention for villains only.”
Abedi added that he doubts Lahren is too upset about the prank.
“For anyone worried about the career or the personal feelings of Tomi Lahren, I’d say: don’t weep. I doubt Tomi is too upset,” Abedi wrote. “Because she loves capitalism — and today she played a joyous part of it for Trump-doubters the world over. At least she can take some solace in the knowledge that what she said came at a fair price.”
