Police in Irving, TX are warning of an anonymous racist letter threatening to “shoot mercilessly” Chinese and Indians who the writer blames for taking IT jobs from Americans, reports the Dallas Morning News.
Authorities say an Asian Indian received the letter, but the Council on American Islamic Relations says they’re investigating reports of others receiving the letter as well.
“We’re trying to verify and follow up with those people to get them connected with law enforcement,” Faizan Syed, CAIR-DFW executive director told the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.
Police say the shootings would take place at pools, workplaces, playgrounds or other places.
“The letter definitely had some hatred type of remarks and also some very threatening violent action to take place at places like playgrounds and pools that was definitely very alarming to us,” said Irving Police Officer Robert Reeves to FOX4.
The racist letter was entitled Return Back to Your Country.
“American citizens in IT industry and other professional fields have lost their jobs to many Indians and Chinese,” the letter says, according to the Ft. Worth Telegram. “We asked you to leave the country without further delay.”
“It’s really important that we take these forms of harassment and these death threats seriously,” Zulikha Hussain, Muslim outreach director for the Dallas County Democratic Party, said . “Americans who are directing their fears toward immigrants and believing that immigrants are the reason they are losing their IT or technology jobs are just hate mongers and racists. They must be reminded that immigrants contribute to American economic growth.”
