Numerous Asian Americans up for People’s Choice Awards

Several Asian American celebrities received nominations Thursday for the People’s Choice Awards, reports Deadline.

The PCAs honored Mindy Kaling with three nominations for her Netflix series, Never Have I Ever. Created by the actress, the coming of age streaming series stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Lee Rodriguez and Ramona Young and is loosely based on Kaling’s childhood.

“We are so excited that Never Have I Ever got so many nominations for the People’s Choice Awards,” she said to E!. “This is especially cool because it is all decided on by the fans. So I’m going to tune in on Nov. 15 and see how we do.” 

The show which has been renewed for a second season on Netflix is up for The Bingeworthy Show of 2020, The Comedy Show of 2020 and The Show of 2020.

Also receiving nominations were Keanu Reeves for Comedy Movie Star of 2020 for Bill & Ted Face the Music. The movie is the third in a series of Bill & Ted movies that go back three decades. Bill and Ted Face the Music is also up for the Comedy Movie for 2020.

Vanessa Hudgens is up for Female Movie Star of 2020 and Action Movie Star of 2020 for Bad Boys for Life. The movie is also up for Movie of 2020 and Action Movie of 2020. Co-Star Will Smith received nominations for Male Movie Star of 2020 and Action Movie Star of 2020.

Sandra Oh received two individual nominations including Female TV Star of 2020 and Drama TV Star of 2020 for Killing Eve.

Three time Grand Slam winner and tennis star Naomi Osaka is up for The Game Changer of 2020. She recently received headlines for not only winning her second U.S. Open, but also giving a nod to Black Lives Matter by adorning the names of Black Americans killed by police in controversial shootings on her face masks.

Mulan got the nod from the People’s Choice Awards with nominations for Action Movie of 2020 and the Soundtrack of 2020 for Christina Aguilera’s Loyal, Brave, True.
