OC family endures months of abuse from ‘racist neighbors’

A Vietnamese American family in Orange County say they have dealt with harassment from their White neighbors ever since moving in months ago.

In an Instagram post made by the family’s oldest daughter who goes on Instagram by the name of Sheyla, you can hear in numerous videos the two sides screaming at each other with both sides openly stating they are recording the other.

On Oct. 18, the family’s father recorded two teenagers standing on the balcony of the neighbor’s home, shouting abuse at the family’s mother.

“Remember you’re recording a minor,” one teenager shouted. “How does it feel to be a pervert?”

“And you’re recording me, in my private property,” the father replied.

In another video on the same day, the teenagers insult the mother’s English proficiency.

“Ya, b**ch, ya… Wow, you actually understand something,” one teenager said. “I thought you didn’t understand words.”

At one point, one of the girls says to the mom, “You tell your husband to rape minors, b*tch.”

According to the Instagram post, the incidents have been ongoing since March, with the neighbors shouting phrases like ‘f*ck your people,’ ‘Asians are stupid,’ and ‘go back home.’

“Ever since my family and I (Mom, dad, my two 7 year old siblings and I) have moved into our new house back in March, we have constantly been harassed by our racist neighbors,” the daughter writes. “Whenever my parents would come home, they would stand at their door and throw the middle finger at them. They would constantly try and argue with my parents for no reason.”

“My family is everything to me and knowing that these people are harassing us even after my mom and dad have worked super hard for this new house is heartbreaking,” the daughter added.

You can read her account of the incidents and numerous videos in the Instagram post.

Another neighbor, Nancy Nguyen said in a Facebook post, that she and her boyfriend have witnessed the bullying and harassment.

“Sometime two weeks ago me and my boyfriend were standing outside and we witness the White man and his girlfriend verbally attacking the Vietnamese lady. My boyfriend then tells the guy to calm down and to stop harassing the lady,” Nguyen wrote. “The guy and his girlfriend then turn to us and start trying to harass us saying ‘your people this, your people that.’  I quickly realize that it was not a neighborhood issue but a race issue.”

After the situation deescalated, Nguyen said she and her boyfriend went to check on the family’s mother.

“She LITERALLY broke down into tears… It just broke my heart because that could be my parents,” Nguyen said. “She told me that she doesn’t feel at ease sleeping at night because of this family…”

The daughter says the family has sought the help of the police without success.

“The cops have been informed about this countless of times, but since nothing physically has happened, they cannot do anything about it,” the daughter wrote. “My dad is currently trying to file a restraining order against them, but who knows what will happen.”
