Viral Harvard reject takes stab at music world

By Mimi Chen, AsAmNews Staff Writer

It’s not often you can make a name for yourself being rejected by a top university, but Ethan Kim managed to do that.

When Harvard decided to defer his application, Kim pulled out his bag of tricks to get the attention of the admissions department.

He released a rap video extolling all his virtues to the Ivy League school. It generated nearly 1.5 million views.

The Harvard reject is now turning his attentions to a music career.

He’s one of the featured performers at the Joy Ruckus Club New Years Festival which starts Tuesday and runs through Sunday.

The festival will feature 180 acts of Asian descent on 9 virtual stages across 6 day.

It’s being called one of the world’s largest for Lunar New Year. The entire festival will be free and open to the world to watch. In a year in which public gatherings to observe Lunar New Year will not be happening, Joy Ruckus Club 3 will fill the void and enable the masses to congregate virtually to celebrate the Year of the Ox through music.

AsAmNews sat down with Kim to catch up with him and get a taste of what we can expect at the concert.
