Today the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass HR6, the Dream and Promise Act, according to C-SPAN.

The bill will provide a path to citizenship for some undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. Those undocumented immigrants are often referred to as “Dreamers.” It will also provide a pathway to those who were granted temporary protection from deportation, according to NBC News.

The bill passed by a narrow margin: 228 votes to 197 votes. According to Forbes reporter Andrew Solender, 9 Republicans voted in favor of passing the bill.

Rep. Nydia Velazquez, one of the co-authors of the bill, called the passage “a new chapter in our history.

The bill will now be discussed and voted on in the Senate.
