A homeless man on a New York subway came to a rescue of a 34-year old woman being racially harassed.
The New York Post reports the man spewed vile racial epithets at the woman while most bystanders just did nothing.
It happened on the Q Train at the 96th Street Station.
According to NBC New York, a homeless man at the other end of the train heard the commotion, screamed at the suspect who eventually ran off the train.
“I told him him to go away because I didn’t want to hear any of that, and he just got more aggressive,” the victim who did not want to be identified told the TV station.
She says the suspect got menacingly closer to her and that’s when the homeless man came to her defense.
” I’m very thankful for him,” the woman said.
The incident happened less than a day after about 50 mostly Asian Americans held a protest in the subway system calling out crimes against Asian Americans.
Concerned Asian American Citizens of NYC urged citizens to get more involved in stopping these crimes. They passed out literature outlining how everyday people can help deescalate these situations.
The NYPD Asian Hate Crime Task Force is investigating.
