Kerry Welsh’s father talks about his late daughter with pride.
A suspected drunk driver struck and killed the first year Loyola Marymount Student and soccer star in Los Angeles Saturday.
“[She was] the most selfless person I’ve ever met in my life. [It’s] kinda hard to say, I’m a 52-year-old man and I was learning from an 18-year-old girl,” Albert Welsh said to NBC4. “Just an amazing kid.”
Welsh graduated salutatorian of her high school class in Glendora in May. Hundreds of people gathered at Glendora High for a memorial on Thursday, according to CBS2.
“Thank you for being the greatest girlfriend,” Nick Dergazarian said. “Sweet hometown girl who knew how to have fun in the simplest, easiest ways.”
Her father said when his daughter learned he had epilepsy, she went to a professor to find out how she could help with research to find a cure.
“She ultimately was able to contact an epileptologist,” her father said.
Amo Mama reports Kerry was on her way to pick up her younger sister when the accident occurred. The suspected DUI driver is out on bail.
A Go Fund Me page set up to pay for funeral expenses has so far raised $51,000.
