Yushu Fu describes herself as not politically engaged. That’s changed after she read comments from Democratic state Rep. Gerald Brady about “ch*nk broads” in the sex industry.
“Before this happened, I was pretty quiet person. I wasn’t very active,” she told AsAmNews over the phone. “After all the anti-Asian hate happened, a state rep said something like this. I can’t sit here and do nothing. Hate has to go.”
Fu has formed a group called Delaware Asian American Voice and is calling for Rep Brady to resign.
Brady quickly apologized after an email he wrote surfaced. He had intended his comments about protecting Asian sex workers to go to a friend, but accidentally sent it to an advocate instead.
“Is the dude basically saying, if we provide free Blowjobs for Uncle Pervie there will be few rapes and few chink broads will be shipped in CONEX containers to the Port of Wilmington??,” Brady reportedly wrote in his email.
Fu is not happy with the State Democratic Party’s response which condemned his remarks and directed him to sensitivity training.
“This cannot be excused and will not be tolerated,” State Democratic leaders wrote in a letter to Brady. “While your apology is sincere and contrite, words along are not enough to properly address this situation. We will be directing you to an appropriate sensitivity training course.”
The letter also encouraged him to open a dialogue with the Asian American community.
“I pretty much vote Democrats all the way down,” said Fu. “The party is trying to white wash it and wait for people to calm down and let it go.”
She’s reached out to her State Senator and to the Democratic party pushing for nothing short of a resignation.
She’s also launched a Go Fund Me page in an effort to raise money for a billboard calling for Brady’s resignation. She is already more than halfway towards her goal of $1000 dollars.
AsAmNews has reached out to both Brady and the Delaware Democratic Party for comment and will update this story if they respond.
