Time’s Up CEO Tina Tchen is the latest person to resign in the scandal involving former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, reports Variety.
Her resignation comes one day after the Washington Post reported the women’s right group worked with Cuomo to form a response to sexual harassment claims filed by former staffers and other women, according to USA Today.
“There is so much more work to do for women. It is clear that I am not the leader who can accomplish that in this moment,” Tchen said in a statement posted on the group’s website.
Tchen’s resignation follows that of Time’s Up founder Roberta Kaplan two weeks ago over her role in the matter and also after the resignation of Cuomo himself around the same time.
According to Variety, some came to the defense of Tchen, who served in the White House under President Obama and who cited her longtime advocacy for women.
Others however said she had deviated from the course and needed to go.
A group of survivors said Time’s Up was founded to “hold abusers accountable, but it seems that vision was lost and leadership drifted from who mattered most: survivors and victims,” they said in an open letter.
The Time’s Up board applauded Tchen’s dedication, but said “Accepting her resignation today is a demonstration of accountability and will allow our organization to move forward.”
The group launced in 2018 after the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment case and the start of the #MeToo movement.
