The Philippine News Agency reports an elderly Filipino American and a Fil-Am theatre actor were both attacked on the New York Subway system on consecutive days.
The incidents prompted the Philippine Consulate to issue a warning to New York’s Filipino community to be extra vigilant.
According to Resonate, the culprit shoved an elderly Filipina down the stairs at the station in Rego Park, Queens. A Filipino nurse rushed to her aid.
“Our Good Samaritan stayed with her until police arrived and later provided us with details of what happened. He told us he could not control his tears on his way to work. ‘It could have been my mom,’ he said,” according to Consul General Elmer Cato to the Philippine News Agency.
Doctors treated the victim at a local hospital. Her name has not been disclosed.
The Filipino actor was spit on and assaulted while on a subway train, Resonate reported.
Cato urged all Filipinos to be extra vigilant while riding public transit.
