It’s been a rough week for the stars of Shang-Chi.
Several digital sites have reported that star Simu Liu allegedly once said on social media that pedophilia is “no different” than being gay,” reported The Advocate, a publication serving the LGBTQ community.
“From a biological standpoint it’s no different than being gay— a small mutation in the genome that determines our sexual preferences,” the account NippedInTheBud wrote. The writer went on to say “Taking advantage of minors is wrong. Disgusting and vile,” even. The Reddit account has been linked to Liu, although there’s no confirmation of that.
According to CBR.com, other comments from that account include “I am all about the gender equality however girls are just not as good as boys at sports and whenever I play volleyball with a girl on the team I always get frustrated. Sometimes I say things.”
The controversy follows a resurgence of recent stories about Liu’s co-star, Awkwafina, who has been criticized for her use of a blaccent or Black accent.
Liu has not commented directly on the controversy involving him. He supposedly made the comments in 2015 saying after playing the role of a pedophile, he is now more sympathetic to them.
AsAmNews checked Liu’s IMDB account, but could not immediately find any role that meets that description.
