President Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the close ties between the two countries as the two met at the White House Friday.
Biden joked that the Indian press corp told him during his Vice Presidency that there were five Bidens in India. He said he was aware of one- a Captain George Biden, who was a captain in the East India Tea Company. However, he said he hasn’t had time to dig deeper into his family tree to see if the two are related.
Modi said he had brought papers from India to help the President search his roots.
“Today I have brought along some documents… Maybe those documents could be of use to you!” he told Biden, who chuckled in response.
In more serious matters, the two applauded the cooperation between the two nations in fighting COVID-19.
The two also pledged to work together on matters of shared interest in the Indio-Pacific region, as well as finding solutions to climate change.
Modi has a close relation with President Trump, but the meeting at the White House seemed to indicate that the close relations between the two countries would remain under Biden.
