In a recent interview, actress Vanessa Hudgens said she wants to make a movie about her mother, who immigrated from the Philippines.
Hudgens told Glamour UK that her mother, Gina Guangco, came to American when she was 25. When Hudgens was growing up, there weren’t many people who looked like her mother onscreen.
“It’s so important to share all the different stories because America is a massive melting pot, [just like the] world,” Hudgens told Glamour UK. There are so many different stories that need to be told so that we are exposed to them and can have more empathy towards different people.”
The “High School Musical” star also discussed the challenges her mother faced.
“As an immigrant, coming into the States and not knowing anyone, I can’t even imagine how difficult and challenging that is and what challenges she faced as a woman,” Hudgens said in the interview. “And my father was a firefighter, so he was gone for a week and home for a week.”
Throughout her career, Hudgens has honored her mother. After her father passed away, she said it was her turn to look after her mother.
“It’s my turn to spoil her,” Hudgens said, according to Inquirer.net. “She came to America from the Philippines with my father, so all that she knew in America was my dad, my sister (Stella) and me. Now that my dad is gone, it’s been difficult.
