U.S. Olympic figure skater Vincent Zhou announced on Monday that he was withdrawing from the men’s figure skating competition at the Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19, ESPN reports.
Zhou competed in the team event on February 6. According to U.S. Figure Skating, Zhou tested positive that day, TIME reports. He was seen cheering on his teammates but was missing from the medal ceremony.
The two-time Olympian posted a video on Instagram announcing his withdrawal.
“I’ve already lost count of the number of times I’ve cried today,” Zhou said in the video. “But I’m happy to say that at least one of those times was happy tears, and that was when I found out that I became an Olympic silver medalist.”
Fellow figure skaters and Olympians wished Zhou well in the comment section.
