Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and his wife Kathy Sisolak were subjected to racist taunts while dining at a restaurant in Las Vegas on Sunday night, The Las Vegas Sun reports.
The governor and his wife were confronted by at least two men at Lindo Michoacan in Summerlin, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. The confrontation was recorded in a video that was posted on social media and sent to news outlets.
In the video, a man identified by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as right-wing conspiracy theorist Justin Andersch, approaches Gov. Sisolak. He pretends to ask for a picture before screaming threats and insults at the governor.
Sisolak’s wife, Kathy, is of Chinese heritage. Andersch accused the governor of working for China.
“You working-for-China piece of shit,” he says in the video, according to The Guardian.
In a statement released by the Governor’s office on Monday, Sisolak conveyed his disappointment at the racist language directed towards his wife, 8 News Now reports.
“He is deeply disappointed in how this incident unfolded, particularly with the language used to talk about First Lady Kathy Sisolak’s heritage,” the Governor’s office said in the statement. “We can disagree about the issues, but the personal attacks and threats are unwarranted, unwelcome and unbecoming behavior for Nevadans.”
