Yonkers Police have arrested and charged a man with attempted murder as a hate crime after a 67-year-old Asian woman was punched 125 times.
Police responded to a call around 6:15 p.m. on Friday night, NBC New York reports. They found the woman bloodied and beaten outside of her apartment building.
The woman, who had severe facial injuries, was transported to a trauma center nearby, News 12 The Bronx reports.
Investigators say the victim passed by the suspect on her way home. The suspect yelled a racial slur at the woman. He allegedly yelled at her seven times, punched her 125 times, and spit on her.
The suspect, a 42-year-old man identified as Tammel Esco, was still at the scene when police arrived. Police arrested him without incident, NBC New York reports.
Esco was arraigned at Yonkers City Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail.
ABC7’s Cefaan Kim posted footage showing some of the incident on Twitter. The graphic video is prefaced with a trigger warning.
