The Alameda County district attorney’s office has dropped attempted murder charges against an Asian American teen who deliberately hit a man with his car. The charges were dropped as a part of a plea deal, KTVU reports.
Last August, Daniel Won, then 19-years-old, was driving a Chevrolet Volt on the 6600 block of Girvin Drive in Oakland, SFist reports. Won confronted three people from another vehicle who were attempting to tell him to slow down.
The confrontation was captured on a cellphone video. Won disappears behind the corner in his car before returning and hitting 29-year-old Joseph Lax. The attack left Lax with a broken tailbone.
Won, now 20, was arrested shortly after the incident and held without bail at Santa Rita Jail. On Tuesday, KTVU learned that Won had pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon. He received two years’ probation.
