Suni Lee placed second in NCAA all-around women’s gymnastic championships.
Lee, who competes for Auburn, was beaten by Trinity Thomas of Florida on Thursday by 0.1375 points across all four events, according to Yahoo Sports. Thomas had a perfect 10 in the floor exercise and also won the uneven bars. Lee won the balance beams and Jaedyn Rucker of Utah won the vault, New York Times reports.
Recent new rules allowing college athletes to benefit financially from their names and fame allow Lee and others to compete in NCAA events while earning income from international careers, Yahoo Sports wrote. Lee is the first women’s all-around Olympic gold medalist to compete collegiately.
Lee said a pep talk from Jordan Chiles from UCLA helped her calm down and take her second-place finish, according to the New York Times.
The competition finished this Saturday with the team final, with Oklahoma placing first, according to NCAA. Auburn finished fourth in the team final, their highest-ever finish in the meet.
