Bee Nguyen announced late Tuesday night that she had conceded the Secretary of State race to Republican incumbent Brad Raffensperger.
According to The New York Times, Raffensperger won 53.3 percent of the vote and Nguyen won 43.9 percent with over 95 percent of districts reporting. Nguyen tweeted that she had called Raffensperger to concede and congratulate him.
“I just called @GaSecofState to concede & congratulate him on winning his 2nd term,” Nguyen wrote. “The past years haven’t been easy in Georgia — I’m grateful to be in race where we can have a phone call & wish each other well. Thank you to the voters in the state of Georgia. You inspire me.”
Nguyen was the first Vietnamese American to serve in the Georgia State Assembly. In June 2022, she won the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State after a heated run-off. She has been praised by many for her support of progressive policies.
