Model is first transgender person to win local Miss America pageant

Brían Nguyen is the first transgender contestant to win a local Miss America organization pageant, ABC 4 reports.

The teenager from New Hampshire was crowned “Miss Greater Derry 2023” on Sunday night. She will also receive a scholarship as part of the Miss Greater Derry Scholarship Program, founded in 1986. Nguyen is currently a freshman at Nashua Community College majoring in business management.

“I hope to use my degree so that I can create sustainable, ethical, and inclusive products such as clothing, cosmetics, and accessories. I also hope to continue to grow my career in the modeling and social media industry,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

According to Sportskeeda, Nguyen started a social media movement called #QueensAreEverywhere. It aims to give young people the confidence they need to succeed in their respective industries.

Nguyen hopes she will continue to make her community proud.

“I am ecstatic to be the FIRST transgender woman to be a Miss America local titleholder, and I hope to make everyone proud and become the first to walk the Miss America stage,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
