Suni Lee is setting her sights on the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Lee is currently competing at the collegiate level in the NCAA with Auburn University. According to NBC News, the gold medalist announced that she would end her NCAA gymnastics career after the 2023 season. She wants to focus on training to make the 2024 Olympic team. It is unclear if Lee will continue with classes at Auburn while she prepares.
She posted about her decision in an Instagram video, thanking her “auburn family” for their support.
“I don’t want it (the Olympics) to just be once in a lifetime,” she said in the video. “I have my sights set on Paris in 2024, and I know what I have to do to get there. I’m looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and putting in the work.”
According to ESPN, Lee’s former Olympic teammates Jordan Chiles (UCLA) and Jade Carey (Oregon State) have been competing on both the collegiate and elite levels simultaneously. They were a part of the American team that won a gold medal at the 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
Lee took home three medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics: gold in the all-around, silver in the team event, and bronze in the uneven bars.
