Filipino American Jason Robertson is leading the NHL in goals scored. The 23-year-old hockey player was born in Arcadia, California. His mother is from the Philippines and his father is of Scottish descent.
Robertson, referred to by friends and fans as “Robo,” currently plays as a winger for the Dallas Stars. The team drafted him in 2017, and, according to the Dallas Morning News, he is already exceeding expectations.
Robertson currently leads the NHL in goals scored with 18 goals. He made the leap over Connor McDavid last night during the Stars’ game against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. According to The Athletic, Robertson scored two goals in two minutes to tie the game 4-4 and send it into overtime. The Stars would eventually lose to the Jets 5-4.
CBS Sports reports that Robertson is scoring and assisting at a rapid rate. He has scored in 14 out of his last 21 games.
“Robo is a guy that’s honestly hard to defend because he scores in a bunch of different ways,” Stars coach Pete DeBoer told The Dallas Morning News. “He can score off the rush, he scores kind of lurking around the quiet areas of the ice waiting for the puck to come to him. It always seems to come to him. Tougher to defend a guy like that isn’t predictable.”
