Search crews have found the body of Yeon-Su Kim, who went missing with her husband, Corey Allen, while kayaking in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico.
According to the Arizona Daily Sun, officials confirmed that Kim had been found dead on Sunday. They continued to search for Allen’s body on Monday but were delayed due to weather conditions.
The Washington Post reports that the couple went kayaking in the area with their daughter on Thanksgiving day. When conditions became dangerous, Allen took his daughter back to shore and then went back to help his wife. According to AZ Central, the daughter was left in the care of relatives who had also traveled to the area.
Kim and Allen live in Flagstaff, Arizona with their two children. Allen is a business owner and a real estate agent. Kim was the executive director of the School of Forestry at Northern Arizona University. The university issued a statement after her death was confirmed.
“Yeon-Su was an invaluable faculty member. Her accomplishments and contributions to her academic discipline, our university’s mission, and the broader community were many,” the statement said, according to The Washington Post.
A family friend started a GoFundMe to help reimburse the out-of-pocket expenses for voluntary search and rescue crew members. The rest of the money will go towards supporting the couple’s two children.
