In a recent interview with Collider, Simu Liu said he was looking forward to making the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings.
According to Screen Rant, the first Shang-Chi movie was one of the highest-grossing films in 2021. A sequel is said to be in the works but when it will be released depends on where the story fits into the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU is currently rolling out films for Phase 5, and Screen Rant believes the film may come in Phase Six.
Despite the unclear timeline, Liu has said he is excited for the sequel.
“Going into a sequel feels exciting,” the leading man said in his interview with Collider. “It doesn’t necessarily feel like there’s a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed. It feels like we’ve established a world and there’s just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we’ve spent so much time ideating on and thinking about.”
He added that he believes the sequel will be a good balance of old and new.
“And then, we’re getting to revisit some things, but also show the viewer new things,” he told Collider. “We’ll deliver all of the amazing action that we were celebrated for on the first movie, but then also hopefully explore new sides of Shaun’s character and the characters around him. That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She’s on top of the world and just the queen of everything.”
